INFO ON MY BLOODY VALENTINE:
My Bloody Valentine are an Irish band formed in 1984 in Dublin. They are best known for the modern classic Loveless. The band's key member is guitarist/singer/composer Kevin Shields, a reclusive perfectionist and radically inventive guitarist/engineer. The band's other original member is drummer/studio maven Colm O'Ciosoig; during their heyday MBV also included singer-guitarist Bilinda Butcher and bassist Debbie Googe. Their band shares its name with a low-budget Canadian slasher film; it was more apt during their early years as a The Wedding Present and The Jesus and Mary Chain-inspired punk band. Though they released a handful of EPs during the mid-1980s, only their two official albums Isn't Anything (1988) and Loveless (1991), are considered representative of their sound: a distinct blend of noise rock, ambient, and off-kilter melodic pop. The songs were written by Shields, except for Touched, a short instrumental by Colm O'Ciosoig. In 1999 Pitchfork Media declared Loveless to be the greatest album of the 1990s; however in their 2003 revision of the list, it moved down to number two, swapping places with OK Computer. Kevin Shields has also been noted by Alan McGee as "a genius artist. A visionary.", whilst an NME review of Loveless declared, "...however decadent one might find the idea of elevating other human beings to deities, My Bloody Valentine, failings and all, deserve more than your respect." After leaving Creation Records in 1992 and signing with Island Records, the band fell into a creative black hole. Rumors spread among their fans of albums being recorded and then shelved. Debbie Googe left the band to form Snowpony; she had not played bass on their recordings since You Made Me Realise. Colm O'Ciosoig eventually left and formed a band with Hope Sandoval, formerly of Mazzy Star, called Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Kevin Shields sporadically collaborated with other artists, most notably Experimental Audio Research, Curve, and Primal Scream. He revealed in a fall 2003 National Public Radio interview that Island Records quit financing his My Bloody Valentine endeavors after he spent a half-million pounds of their money. As of 2006, many rumors mentioned the possible reformation of My Bloody Valentine for a new studio album, but none of these were true. In January 2007, Kevin Shields quoted to media outlets that MBV would release another album, though dates have not yet been mentioned. He has contributed music to the soundtracks of two Sofia Coppola films to date, Lost In Translation and Marie Antoinette. Influences include The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, late-1970s Wire, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and independent artists such as the The Pastels. Kevin Shields has also named The Beach Boys as a personal influence. As of a few weeks ago news of a possible reunion concert at the 2008 Coachella Festival in late April have surfaced with prospects of a new album and world tour to follow. Later through various media sites kevin confirmed at least 2 new albums are to be released as soon as the end of 2007. It was announced on November 15th that the band would return to the live stage in summer 2008 with three gigs in London, Manchester and Glasgow respectively. When the tickets went on sale the next day they sold out in just over an hour for all three dates. Four additional shows were immediately added, at the same UK venues.

Boards of Canada is an electronic music duo from Scotland, composed of brothers Michael Sandison (b. 10 June 1969) and Marcus Eoin Sandison (b. 21 September 1970). They have released a number of works, most notably Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi, with little advertising and few interviews - like many of their label-mates on the pioneering electronic music label Warp. Boards of Canada have had an enormous influence on the ambient and idm scenes. They have frequently made reference to the warm, scratchy, artificial sounds of 1970's television. Indeed, the Sandison brothers admit to being inspired by the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which they take their name. The duo have recorded a few minor works under the name Hell Interface. Boards of Canada's music has been used in several CSI episodes and on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim interlude shorts; small bits of their music have been used on the BBC program Top Gear for transitional music. Growing up in a musical family, brothers Michael and Marcus Eoin began playing instruments at a young age. They experimented with recording techniques at around the age of 10, using tape machines to layer cut-up samples of found sounds over compositions of their own. In their teens they participated in a number of amateur bands, however, it wasn't until 1986 when Marcus was invited to Michael's band that Boards of Canada was born.

Formed in Orange County, California in 1991, Dystopia are a sludge band, popular in both the heavy metal and crust punk scenes, due in large part to their bleak, misanthropic imagery. The Magnetic Fields is a New York-based music collective centered on Stephin Merritt and a host of collaborators, contributors, and guests. Recent albums released by Merritt under the name "The Magnetic Fields" usually consist of synth-pop music in a 1980s style underlying clever lyrics which are often heavily ironic. The band was originally formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1990 by schoolmates Merritt and (percussionist/pianist) Claudia Gonson. While 1991's Distant Plastic Trees and 1992's The Wayward Bus (now most easily available together as a compilation; the The Wayward Bus / Distant Plastic Trees) are sung by Susan Anway, all subsequent albums are principally sung by Merritt himself.
Longtime members include: Gonson, (cellist) Sam Davol, and (banjo player/guitarist) John Woo. Contributors include (but are not limited to) the singers Susan Anway, Dudley Klute, Shirley Simms, and LD Beghtol, and the accordionist/writer Daniel Handler (famous for writing the childrens' books A Series of Unfortunate Events under the alias Lemony Snicket).
Their most popular and best-selling album to date is 69 Love Songs issued on Merge Records as a triple album filled with many fairly short songs that are reminiscent of early Beatles productions.
The album is notable for its employment of many unorthodox musical arrangements and downright quantity of material presented. Instruments used on this album include the ukulele, banjo, accordion, cello, mandolin, piano, flute, xylophone guitars, various percussion instruments, and a standard setup of synths and effects.

Braid's "Age of Octeen"

emo/post-hardcore band from Illinois that formed in 1993. After forming, the band went through several line-up changes but eventually settled on: Bob Nanna on guitar and vocals, Todd Bell on bass and, Chris Broach on guitar and vocals and Roy Ewing on drums. Roy was replaced in 1997 by Damon Atkinson. In 1999 Braid disbanded and went on to form Hey Mercedes with all band members minus Chris Broach (who went on to form The Firebird band) and adding Mark Dawursk. The band reformed for a US tour in 2004 and, now that Hey Mercedes are defunct, apparently intend to tour sporadically. It is not yet known if Braid will be recording any more material.
Braid did a reunion tour in 2004 in the U.S.A., Canada, & Japan.

Animal collective's "Campfire Songs"

In 2000, in Baltimore, MD, David Portner (aka Avey Tare) and Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) established Animal Collective with the issue of Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished on their own Animal imprint. It was the first of a series of captivating releases exploring the fringes of folk, noise rock, ambient, drone, and twisted psychedelia. Joined by their friend Geologist (aka Brian Weitz), Avey Tare Panda Bear released Danse Manatee (Catsup Plate) in 2001, followed by a live release documenting their debut tour with and Black Dice. Here Comes the Indian (Paw Tracks), featuring Deakin (Josh Dibb) for the first time, was issued in 2003 to considerable acclaim, and the Collective backed it up with the droning, folky simmer of Campfire Songs, again for Catsup Plate. (FatCat also became the group's European sponsor, issuing their first two albums as a package and signing them for future releases.) Animal Collective returned in May 2004 with Sung Tongs, a mysterious, fragilely melodic album that garnered even more critical acclaim and spawned a series of tours. Panda Bear issued Young Prayer, his solo debut, in September 2004. The Prospect Hummer EP, which featured a collaboration with Vashti Bunyan, appeared in May 2005, and the full-length Feels followed in October of that year. In January 2007 Domino Records. Panda Bear Released another LP, 'Person Pitch' which was a major departure from his last efforts. Raein was a screamo band from Forlì, Italy. The band features members of La Quiete and Neil on Impression. They announced their split in 2006.
They recently reformed for a show in Bologna, in Sept 2007. Andrea is joining La Quiete for Japanese tour 2007.

La Quiete is a screamo band from Italy. The band 's drummer also played in the now defunct Italian band Raein.
Like many bands in the DIY hardcore scene, they have released many splits with bands including Acrimonie, Catena Collapse, The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra, k.c. milian, The Pine and Louise Cyphre. They also released the full-lenght La Fine Non è La Fine and a 7"+VCD with three videos made by Italian artists Erica il Cane, Blu and Kabu. Their latest album, Tenpeun 01-05, contains songs from various past splits, demos, unpublished songs and videos.
